LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Greetings Sisters and Allies,
Welcome to the inaugural edition of SLSV Sisterhood News. This space is for Black women and our allies to promote the progressive political leadership of Black women, disrupt misinformation targeting our community, and share organizing opportunities to support our Justice Agenda.
If you are like me, many days I am in information overload, and I just need it to be simple. Well, we can’t make it simple BUT we can break it down and make sure that we share accurate information to fuel our fight for democracy and prosperity.

On July 18, 2024, the Republican National Committee will host the acceptance speech of their Presidential Nominee, presumably Donald Trump. Join trust Black women organizations, like Black Women’s Roundtable, Higher Heights, National Council of Negro Women, Power Rising, and Win With Black Women, to hear first hand with the nominee has planned for America and commentary from Black women leaders on what we think about it.

Sign Open Letter To Support Joe Biden as the Democratic Presidential Nominee
|
Joe Biden was elected by more than 14 Million People in a primary election to be the Democratic Presidential Nominee and he should not be asked to step down. President Biden has demonstrated effective leadership, navigating the country through significant challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery, and geopolitical tensions. His administration has passed substantial legislation, including the American Rescue Plan and the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which have provided critical support to millions of Americans and made long-term investments in the nation's future. Changing the nominee at this stage would create unnecessary division and uncertainty within the Democratic Party and weaken our position to beat Trump. Keeping Biden as the nominee provides stability and continuity, essential for maintaining the momentum needed to secure another term and continue advancing the Democratic agenda.

New Jersey CD 10 Special Election Update
|
Congratulations to LaMonica McIver on winning the New Jersey Congressional District (CD) 10 special primary election, where she triumphed over 10 other candidates. She will move on to face Republican challenger, Carmen Bucco. New Jersey's 10th CD seat was previously held by Donald Payne, Jr., who passed away in April 2024. McIver is the founder of G.A.L.S., a nonprofit dedicated to fostering future female leaders, and has experience as a school district administrator.

Applications Open for White House Spring 2025 Internships
President Biden and Vice President Harris announced that the application period for the Spring 2025 session of the White House Internship Program is now open and will close on Friday, July 26 at 11:59pm ET. The session will begin in January 2025.
The White House Internship Program is a public service leadership and development program that provides emerging leaders with an opportunity to gain valuable skills while supporting the work of the White House and furthering the priorities of the Biden-Harris Administration.
