    In 2025, Black women once again led the way on progressive issues, with more than 90% voting to elect candidates and pass measures aligned with their vision of an affordable lifestyle, diversity, and freedom. Black women candidates, organizers, and voters are not simply maintaining ground; they are deepening leadership, strengthening political infrastructure, and charting the course for 2026 and beyond. This report affirms what history continues to show: when Black women lead, vote, and govern, democracy becomes stronger, fairer, and more accountable to the communities it serves.

We are looking for Black Women who are running for office in 2025 or 2026 to complete the #BLACKWOMENRAN2026 FORM. This is in preparation for the 2025/2026 Federal and Local Elections. The goal is to document the experiences and needs of Black woman candidates and to document the historic leadership of Black women in the political space.

The data shows that the US Senate remains as an office that black women have trouble reaching. While the data is showing positive signs for black women wishing to seek a US Senate seat, the high-profile office continues to cause issues for black women.

The data shows that in recent years, black women have grown more comfortable and encouraged to run for public office. The map also reveals that work is needed to empower black women in the Midwest.

The data shows that black women still have ways to go in terms of gaining traction in statewide races. Compared to federal races, black women have less visibility in statewide races than federal races.
